Kerala State Housing Board

Organised and planned development of building activties particurlarly of residential accomadation has been lacking in the State.Various Governemental and Non-Governmental agencies are executive house building schemes without any c-ordination.The agencies have also not been able to function effectively due to their inability ton funds at the proper time.

The Housing Minister's Conference hold to 1957 and in 1961 had recommended the establishment of a Housing Board or Corporation in every State.Housing Board already been established in many other States.

Project & Consultancy

The Kerala State Housing Board at its meeting held on 27.4.2002 has formulated a Consultancy and Construction Wing to provide Consultancy service in all fields of Civil Engineering and to take up execution of works on contract or deposit basis.The construction activities of the Board are carried out by the Regional Offices at Trivandrum, Kochi and Kozhikode through 15 Divisional offices (one in each district) and 2 Nos. of Project Divisions.

MN Laksham Veedu

One lakh house scheme was a model scheme implemented under M.N. Govindan Nair, Housing Minister in the 1972 Achutha Menon Ministry. After 36 years  the present condition of most of the houses so constructed are very pathetic mainly because of three decades of aging without routine repairs and maintenance, Government vide GO(MS)57/2004/Hsg dt.26/11/04 sanctioned ,  a scheme for the reconstruction of these houses

Innovative Housing

In the 11th 5 year plan, under 2nd years programme (2008-2009) it is proposed to construct residential flats (4-6 storied) in government land for economically weaker section in urban area. An amount of Rs 250 lakhs is provided in the state budget 2008-2009 for the same. Suitable government land is to be made available to board for formulating the scheme. The first stage of the scheme is under implementation at Thrikkakkara, Ernakulam district.

Tsunami Housing

KSHB has been designated as nodal agency for the implementation of the costal housing and re-settlement programme (CHRP) under TRP. Government has also decided to entrust the construction of houses at Trivandrum, Mallapuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts to KSHB for direct execution.
